Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1999 by a small group, to memorialise the murder of black transgender woman Rita Hester and Chanelle Pickett
Typically on this day the community would come together during a candlelight vigil, dedicated church service, marches and many more different actions to read the names of the people they have lost between Oct-Sept.
Unfortunately this year Macclesfield Pride were unable to hold a candlelight vigil as planned however TRANSCEND met as advertised last week. They had afternoon tea and shared stories both personal and historical. There’s still work to do #increasingvisability #reducingnegativity
