Tackling Hate Crime
A hate crime is:
“Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice, based on a person’s disability or perceived disability; race or perceived race; or religion or perceived religion; or sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation or transgender identity or perceived transgender identity.” – CPS, read more here.
Some police forces monitor other characteristics but only the 5 characteristics outlined in the definition above are nationally monitored by police services.
If you are a witness to or the victim of a hate crime, you can report it to your local police service either by phone, online or face to face here.
